What is scoliosis?

SCOLIOSIS is curvature of the spine resulting in significant physical deformity with especially severe curves.

Curvature occurs in three planes:
  • frontal - the spine is curved to the side (right or left)
  • kyphosis or lordosis
  • transverse - rotation of vertebrae

Scoliosis is regarded as general organism disease. It causes changes in motoric, circulatory and respiratory systems and in physical efficiency of internal organs.

Scoliosis may develop at any age in any child. The progress of spinal curve is related to the periods of rapid growth and the lack of the appropriate treatment.

Improperly treated scoliosis may lead to disabilities, neurological disorders, permanent disabilities and, with circulatory and respiratory problems - to premature death.
